Castor oil has gained recent popularity, but it’s actually been around as a brilliant multitasking borderline too good to be true ingredient for a long time! Kind of reminds me of Windex in My Big Fat Greek Wedding if you’ve ever seen it lol. I started using it postexplant in castor oil packs, but since then, I’ve started using it many different ways. Come to find out, if Olive Oil is the King of Oils internally, Castor Oil is the Queen of oils externally.I honestly don't know the answer to a lot of questions about why it’s the cure all, so I wanted to bring Dr. Marisol, founder of Queen of the Thrones Castor Oil (the brand I swear by because it’s not messy), on to dive deep with us on Castor Oil!

What Is Castor Oil?

Castor oil on its own is a natural antiinflammatory, is rich in antioxidants, supports nitric oxide function, and preserves glutathione which are all very important when it comes to detox, cleansing, and drainage. Castor Oil is also an amazing microbiome balancer (whether in the skin or in the gut) which is important because our microbiome is responsible for 80% of our health. Castor Oil is also excellent at moving smooth muscle (in the intestines, the blood vessels, and lymphatic vessels). AND, whenever you put a thick oil like castor oil on your skin, you stimulate dopamine areas of your brain!

How does Castor Oil Work?

It’s super scientific. Every fat molecule has a glycerol and three triglyceride chains. 90% of the chains in castor oil are a unique molecule to Castor Oil and the biochemistry of it actually looks identical to a naturally produced transmitter in our bodies known as a prostaglandin. These are used in our bodies to reduce inflammation, to stimulate smooth muscle, to help with hormones, and our neurotransmitters. The way that this prostaglandin fits into receptors and tissues in the body is the secret sauce behind how the castor oil works.

Does Castor Oil Absorb into Our Skin?

Yes. It actually absorbs better than the other oils. Other oils tend to just stay in the epidermal layer (our outermost layer) but the castor oil penetrates much deeper. It really helps to keep the skin much better moisturized. Word has it that it can even reduce our sun spots – what!! You can mix equal parts castor oil and baking soda,  rub it on your sun spots, apply a little bandaid and watch it work! I am going to try this and see if ti works but apparently studies show that it does!

Castor Oil has soooo many uses:

Wash your face
Moisturize your body
Castor packs
Sun sport treatment
Body scrubs
Dry brushing
Minimize fine lines and wrinkles
Scalp, brow, and eyelash treatment
Oil pulling
And more!
