The residential energy credit is available to taxpayers who make certain types of improvements to their principal residence or a second home.

The credits consist of a Residential Clean Energy Credit (IRC Section 25D) or the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (IRC Section 25C).

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) extended many of the existing energy credits and added new credit improvements. For 2022, the energy efficient credit rules remained largely the same as in 2021 and prior years. Most of the changes under the IRA are effective January 1, 2023.

In this video, I address a common credit situation where a taxpayer installs energy efficient exterior doors and loosefill insulation.
