This is the 10th generation iPad, Apple’s latest ipad in their budget lineup. It’s got a whole new design change and an all new price tag. Yeah. Is it worth picking up? Let’s find out with a little review.

Out of the box you get a usb c to usb c charging cable, a charging brick and the ipad itself. The ipad takes on the design of the iPad Pro and Air lineups with flat edges and backs, and it removes the headphone jack along with the design change. But it does have both a landscape front facing camera orientation which no other iPad has. The screen size and physical dimensions are very similar to the iPad Air. What sets this ipad apart though is a lower $450 starting price tag and the older A14 chip vs the M1 that’s inside the iPad Air. Beyond that it has the details of every other ipad. A nice to look at Retina display, a singular 12mp back camera, a fingerprint sensor on the top right and speakers on the top and bottom of the ipad, 5g support for the cellular model and a usb type c port for charging. Overall the body got a much needed design update and is now consistent with the rest of the iPad lineup.

Using the ipad 10th generation is fine. Everything feels smooth when scrolling and in general usage. And it’s what you expect out of an ipad. The speakers sound decent, not as great as the ipad pros but this is half the price. The back camera takes decent pictures, and that’s really all you need out of a tablet. With the front facing camera now in landscape mode, it makes it easier to multitask while you're on a call and works better when attached to keyboards. Battery life isn’t an issue and it lasts as long as the other ipads, and it passes the Genshin impact test with flying colors giving smooth gameplay even at medium settings, 50fps. I think most people who use this ipad will find that it will do most of the things they want out of their ipad just fine. So when it comes to being an ipad and doing ipad things, this thing does the job and it does it well.

So, now that I’ve cleared how I feel about this iPad, I think there’s been a big question mark about this device. If this ipad is so confusing, who is this iPad for then? Like, what customer will look at this and see a perfect fit. Despite some of it’s compromises I think there’s still a market for an ipad like this. It’s for someone who wants an ipad that’s nicer than the 9th generation ipad and is willing to pay a higher price but doesn’t care much about using the signature ipad accessories such as the apple pencil 2 or magic keyboards. And if all of that is good enough for you to personally purchase it at the $450 price tag then feel free. So, if those upgrades from the 9th generation, and deficiencies from the air makes sense for you, it’s still a decent ipad. But could I at least recommend you shop around first? There may be some older 2020 iPad Airs that have slightly better accessory support still available for purchase.
