Birthplace of Flower Clocks
Halifax is known as the birthplace of flower clocks due to the invention of the first ever flower clock by William J. Milligan in 1897. They are beautifully landscaped, working clocks made completely with flowers for the numbers and lines.

The Halifax Explosion
On December 6, 1917, a large part of the city was devastated by the Halifax Explosion, one of the largest nonnuclear, manmade explosions in history. It occurred when a Norwegian ship collided with a French cargo ship filled with highexplosive ordnance.

Impact on the Titanic Tragedy
Impacted by the Titanic tragedy in 1912, Halifax sent two cable ships to recover bodies, and many victims were buried across three cemeteries in the area. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax has a permanent Titanic exhibition.
