Installing NEW BLADE SKIN for CAT 815 Soil Compactor | Plasma Cutting u0026 Welding

Follow
Cutting Edge Engineering Australia

Watch how we fit and install a new skin for a Caterpillar 815F Soil Compactor blade. The blade has started to wear out and has a hole on the end so we show the step by step process to fit and install a new skin. First, we need to remove the cutting edges before we cut the new skin from high tensile plate using the plasma cutter. We then fit the skin to the blade but the profile isn’t right so it needs to be pulled into shop and tack welded in place before fully welding the skin to the blade. A layer of hardfacing wire is welded to the bottom edge to give it a longer life before the cutting edges are fitted back on to complete the job.

In this video we are using:
Lincoln Electric DC400 Welder
Lincoln LN25 Pro Wire Feeder
UniMig Razorcut 45 Plasma Cutter
WIA 500i Weldmatic welder
