Soon to be 75 years old, my old basement drain has faithfully done its job and has now developed a slight patina. Time for a welldeserved retirement. And because it should not be lonely in Valhalla, I send the old cast iron pipe as a companion and install new undergound drainage pipes instead (the orange ones).
I had initially suspected that stoneware pipes were installed. I had already encountered such in the exterior. Instead, the badly corroded cast iron pipe emerged, running through the exterior wall to the concrete sewer main line.
