Great performance for 23 people. If you are putting 4 +people plus gear, you will want to look at a 15hp for a LX 270 and 320.

If you aren't getting your boat up on plane, you will be pushing water and using more fuel and energy to move your boat. You will use a significant amount of fuel to get up on plane, break the surface tension in the water as you start to gain momentum cutting the water. If you have the right amount of power to get your boat up on plane, you will be getting the absolute best performance out on the water. Your going to get to where you want to go much quicker plus all around your going to have a really nice time with the boat properly set up.

A Mercury 30 hp is ideal for 46 people plus gear.
