INDUCTION MOTOR POWER FACTOR

Hello, everyone and welcome to my channel! In this Video I wanna talk about the Power Factor. And also I'm gonna explain its essential meaning on an electric motor example.
The electrical energy is almost exclusively generated, transmitted and distributed in the form of alternating current. Therefore, the question of power factor immediately comes into picture.
The cosine of angle between voltage and current in an A.C. circuit is known as power factor.
In electrical engineering, power factor is only related to AC circuits, there is no power factor in DC circuits due to zero frequency and phase angle difference (Φ) between current and voltage. Power Factor is a measure of how effectively electrical power is being used.
Let's clear the terms:
1. Active power it is also called real or true power. This is the power that performs the actual work of creating heat, light, motion and so on.
2. Reactive power is the power required to create a magnetic field in inductive consumers like motors, transformers,
ballasts, induction furnaces, etc., that is, coils of any design. Reactive power is also known as magnetizing power. It oscillates between the consumer and the energy provider at twice the network frequency and thus loads cables, fuses and transformers.
3. Apparent power is the combination of active and reactive power.
Power Factor is a considerable term in the electrical engineering and power factor effects enormously on the induction motor performance.
Improving the power factor results in less current being drwan, therefore less electricity costs, less heat and greater longevity of the electrical system.
The more the power factor, the less will be the current demanded.
This is why the power factor is to be maintained as close to unity as possible in order to reduce the current demanded and reduce the size and cost of the conductor in the circuit.
