Certainly one of the nicest railways in India (and also the most difficult to film). This railway climbs the Nigiri (Blue Mountains) from Mettupalayam to Ooty on a meter gauge track fitted with an ABT rack. Huge 082 T rack locomotives, originally built in Switzerland (SLM Winterthur), are used on the steepest part of the line. Dieselelectric locomotives take over on the last (and easier) part of the line. Unfortunately, all trains are pushed by the locomotives, chimney forward for the steam locomotives, which does not help the photographer.
