Forrest Stuart, an assistant professor of sociology at The University of Chicago, examines urban violence, poverty, and social media through research at the street level in places such as Los Angeles and Chicago. With his first book “Down, Out & Under Arrest: Policing and Everyday Life in Skid Row” set for publication by UChicago Press next month, Stuart sat down to discuss the tragedies in Baton Rouge, suburban St. Paul, and Dallas, as well as the growing national focus on policing.
