A ceremony at the Civil Rights Memorial Center in Montgomery, Alabama, commemorated the 59th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, when marchers demanding voting rights for Black people were brutally beaten by white state troopers and sheriff’s deputies as they headed toward the state Capitol. Attendees honored the late U.S. Rep. John Lewis, who was among the leaders of the march.
