I was thinking about our groups of friends in Hawaii and how diverse, or not diverse, those groups are. Despite Hawaii being a melting pot of many cultures and ethnicities, I noticed that my group of friends growing up was primarily Asian Japanese, Chinese, Korean. I had no Hawaiian friends. What changed all of that was going away to the Mainland, where I met some local kids of different ethnic backgrounds and we became friends. So this is something that I noticed recently. Maybe it only happened in my life in Hawaii growing up, but I wanted to see if others can relate.
