Impossible 'gravity pump' test. Does it REALLY work?

Some of these "gravity pump" videos were posted on one of my threads in the Stirling engine forum.

Does this have anything to do with Stirling engines?

Well, air pressure, vacuum, ... probably not, really, but the videos sparked my curiosity.

Could this really work?

Well, I've used a siphon. A siphon certainly works, but only down hill, You can't use a siphon to pump water uphill. Right?

I very, VERY much doubt it. It might work for a while, but probably not for very long. but could it work long enough to be useful, or does it not work at all, or is there actually some trick that could make it possible to siphon water to a higher elevation?

Anyway, here are a few links showing how this can allegedly be accomplished.

I'm calling my simple kitchen sink test, so far, inconclusive. It kind of worked, like a regular siphon, but certainly NOT to a higher elevation.

But to be fair, my setup is rather flawed.

The milk bottle is too flimsy.

I did not include the upright air traps. It's not really clear to me how they are supposed to work.

No foot valve on the intake pipe:
