JENNIFER gave birth to her son in jail. She was handcuffed to the bed for periods of time during labour and after giving birth. The 40yearold told truly: “The week I found out I was pregnant, I actually went to jail and I spent my entire pregnancy incarcerated.” She explained that giving birth was one of the hardest things she’s done and that she had a ‘meltdown’ when it was time for her to return to jail. Jennifer said: “I was crying, I was screaming, I was kicking because it felt so wrong and so bad and there’s nothing I could do I’m there because of my mistakes.” She was sentenced to 10 years in prison for a number of theftrelated convictions and her son, Dominic, was raised by his dad Kyle. The father and son came to visit Jennifer in prison every week. Jennifer was released in 2020 and is extremely proud of Dominic, now 11 years old. People question her abilities as a mother and judge her for her past but Jennifer is determined for her family to stay happy. She said: “My story is just one of encouragement, hope and knowing that that is where I was and this is where I am now.”
