I framed my entire 2 master bedroom Casita and work shop. I failed the first framing inspection because I overlooked a couple small but important details. So I'll show you exactly what I missed and how I corrected them.

I combined my Framing inspections with my Shear Wall inspection because they sort of go hand in hand, but the inspector told me to call in the framing separate from the Shear Wall and Roof Sheathing inspections. He said the framing will be signed off when I'm ready to close up the interior walls basically, once all the rough plumbing and electrical are in place. So that was good to find out. I can go ahead and start roughing in all those things once my roof is weathered in.

As far as the Shear walls.....thats where most of this started. He pointed out that on my plans it called for a higher nail count on some areas and there was supposed to be blocking over every seam where the plywood meets, only within the shear wall area though. So it wasn't too much to do but still better than having to block EVERY seam around the whole structure.

The other part, which was really my mistake for not checking first, was that in installed the SIMPSON anchors incorrectly. The washer or "Horseshoe" washer was upside down. All I needed to do was adjust the brackets enough to be able to flip the washer and retighten. Those were easy fixes essentially.

The last part was finding out that I had forgotten about a whole wall entirely that needed to be a Shear Wall, Technically. The plans had a revision and I think it was overlooked possibly. But there was an interior wall between the two living spaces that needed about 11' for shear wall. So finding that was important because if I overlooked that and called for another inspection and failed I could have to start paying a little extra for too many failed inspections.

Overall it was a good experience. The inspector could see I was building it all to specs and was taking care in doing so. So now he knows there's nothing that I'm trying to skip or hide and next time he comes out to check he will see that I've addressed everything he asked to be fixed. Next step is to get the structure weather tight and we can start working inside on the finishes.
