Durian is one of the craziest naturally occurring foods on earth. It is a fruit, called the "King of Fruits" actually, but you could be forgiven for mistaken it for many other things :) Possibly a medieval weapon, or an alien's egg, or maybe a freakishly strong smelling surprise item that belongs in the Ninja Turtles' cartoons!

While all these descriptions hold true, SOMEhow Durian is also one of the most dear and wellloved flavors in the world!! For me, today, I discover that it also might be reason enough to stay here in Indonesia forever!

Am I joking? I don't think so...

Today is a day for durian, as part of a family road trip around the amazing island of Samosir. I have a link for you below to show where on the map of Samosir we are, but realize that if you're also here hunting for durian, this is on the opposite side of the island from most of the hotels/guesthouses.
