Hundred of people gathered Saturday afternoon Uptown to call for a name change at a local charter school: Lusher.
Named after Robert Mills Lusher, a Confederate figure and staunch segregationist, Lusher Charter Schooll has been one of New Orleans’s few Arated K12 schools, teaching more than 1,700 students.
Lusher grad Jillian Terrie said she wanted the class of 2020 to be the last class at her school with Lusher on their diplomas, but it was more than just removing the name of a racist man from the school buildings.
