HUMMINGBIRD POOP: You Won't Believe What's in It!

We have all seen hummingbirds poop. We often catch this on photos and video. It looks like a stream of water, but anyone who feeds hummingbirds sees the tell tale signs of hummingbird poop by the tiny specks of black they leave behind.

Did you ever wonder what makes those specks black like they are? I did, so I looked under a microscope to see.

Well, judging from what is in hummingbird poop, I can confirm that they eat LOTS of insects. I found parts of legs, heads, bodies and lots and lots of antennae. Some insect parts look so weird, I need an entomologist to help identify what are or who they belonged to. If you are an entomologist, please leave a note in the comments below!

We examined the poop with an inexpensive microscope made by APEXEL. They have a handheld model that you can take out into the yard and examine leaves, insects, rocks and whatever you find under those rocks! Link to the microscope: https://amzn.to/42BubT3
