On July 7, 1996, in the main event of WCW's Bash at the Beach, Hulk Hogan executed one of the most famous heel turns in the history of professional wrestling. On the surface, it appeared that the Hulkster was storming the ring in order to defend WCW's honour, standing up to selfprofessed Outsiders Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. That's when Hogan, to the astonishment of everyone, was revealed as the 'third man' and suddenly turned and dropped the leg on a prone Randy Savage.

This moment marked the official birth of the New World Order, the revolutionary faction that changed the wrestling business forever. Hogan's heel turn was the perfect shockwave to kick off not just the nWo lifespan, but an industrywide shift in marketing, booking, and overall fan perception and yet, the turn came dangerously close to not happening at all...
