The Hughes 500 is my dream helicopter. So I was thrilled when Jack and Elaine O’Neil invited me to fly their 1969 Hughes 500c, whose former life was as a military OH6 in Vietnam. In this video, Jack takes us through the startup sequence for his Hughes 500. We then depart Big Bear airport to see what it’s like to fly a Hughes 500 through a mountain environment. Along the way I try my hand at the controls, we fly low & fast, and the 500c’s turbine experiences a slight compressor stall. Exciting! #MicahFlies
