HMS Prince of Wales deploys at short notice for largescale NATO Exercise Steadfast Defender, filling in for HMS Queen Elizabeth with an issue.

HMS Prince of Wales (R09) is the second Queen Elizabethclass aircraft carrier and the largest warship in the Royal Navy. The carrier had to deploy with no more than an 8 day notice to cover for the other ship of the same class.

HMS Queen Elizabeth was meant to deploy for NATO's largest exercise since the Cold War; Steadfast Defender, with over 50 ships and 90,000 armed forces personnel participating from all 31 allies and NATO partner, Sweden. However, the UK flagship suffered a starboard propeller shaft issue preventing it from sailing. The Prince of Wales sailed with just 8 days' notice, after originally being on notice for 30 days.

3x Royal Navy Wildcat helicopters were embarked on board. F35B Lightning II fighter jets and any other aircraft will join the ship later at sea.
