Swiftwater rescuers must complete a rigorous training course in order to be fully prepared to rescue individuals who have fallen victim to fastmoving water. The Swiftwater Safety Institute teaches rescue agencies and river guides the skills they need to save the lives of people caught in deadly currents. We traveled to Moab, Utah where the Swiftwater Safety Institute conducted a 3day training course on the Colorado River. The course teaches the proper way to react to dangerous situations including foot entrapments and raft flips, training students on handling tools like a throw bag to help bring a casualty to shore.
