How to Update Name or Address on Your Notary Commission

Follow
National Notary Association

If you have moved or changed your name, it's important to be familiar with the requirements for your commissioning state and the steps you need to take to stay in compliance. This video highlights things you need to be aware of.

Know and Follow Your State's Rules for Notary Name and Address Changes:
The requirements for name and address changes vary state to state. Be sure to follow your state's requirements when requesting a change.

Don 't Delay When Submitting a Name or Address Change:
The allotted timeframe for submitting a name or address change also varies from state to state. As of the posting of this video, processing timeframes at many Notary agencies may be delayed due to COVID19, so it is important not to procrastinate or delay.

You May Need to Purchase a New Seal:
If your state requires it, be sure to purchase a new seal after updating your name and/or address.

Moving Out of State May Automatically End Your Commission:
Notary commissions are not transferable between states. Some states consider your commission terminated as soon as you move. Be sure to take any required steps for notifying your state’s Notary agency or resigning your commission when you leave your commissioning state.
