How to test and replace a Honda and/or Acura main relay!
Tool List:
Replace Main Relay
Remove and replace main relay
10mm wrench...all you need!
Test Main Relay
Multimeter with ability to test continuity
(2) alligator clips
1416 gauge female wire connectors. Remove plastic cover if one
is present
Testing Procedure:
1st Test Battery (+) terminal connect to no. 6* main relay terminal
Battery () terminal connect to no. 8 main relay terminal
Place multimeter prongs on no. 5 and no. 7 main relay
terminals
Listen for beep from multimeter, if beeps continue with test.
No beep replace main relay.
* If your main relay does not have a no. 6 terminal, but rather a
no. 4 terminal, use the no. 4 terminal
2nd Test Battery (+) terminal connect to no. 5 main relay terminal
Battery () terminal connect to no. 2 main relay terminal
Place multimeter prongs on no. 1 and no. 3 main relay
terminals
Listen for beep from multimeter, if beeps continue with test.
No beep replace main relay.
3rd Test Battery (+) terminal connect to no. 3 main relay terminal
Battery () terminal connect to no. 8 main relay terminal
Place multimeter prongs on no. 5 and no. 7 main relay
terminals
Listen for beep from multimeter, if beeps your main relay if
working properly. No beep replace main relay.
