In this video Becky explains how to take care of a horse. She starts by talking about the things that need to be done to the horse on a regular basis.
Trimming the feet.
Getting the teeth floated.
Worming the horse.
Vaccines and Coggins Test

Learning how to take care of a horse means knowing what to feed the horse on a daily basis.
I give mine free choice grass hay 24/7. That means my horses have grass hay that they can eat if they want to available all the time. It’s like a hay buffet that’s open 24/7.
Grass hay is just grass. Other types of hay are legume hay like alfalfa, oat, and peanut hay, those aren’t grass hay. Types of grass hay are timothy, coastal, bermuda, & tifton.
It doesn’t matter where you live in the world, just try to get the cleanest best quality hay you can afford.
Cleanest means no sticks, weeds, dust, or mold. Usually hay that’s kept in a barn will be adequate quality for a horse.
Grain
I give a little grain, but I don’t like grain because it’s full of sugar. So horses are getting the same problems as people who eat a high sugar diet. The sugar highs and lows from the sugary feeds will give your horse a bad temperament. The problems go on and on from feeding grain.
I feed a small amount of crimped oats once a day. What I mean by a little bit is one dry quart per horse. If you have a little pony you don’t even need hay.
Minerals
I give minerals to all my horses. I give purina horse minerals and just follow the directions on the bag. I make sure to err on the side of less because too many will give your horse a stomach ache.
And you also need a whole salt lick available to them at all times.
