Whether a child with autism keeps hitting you, others, or themselves, it’s a problem. In fact, dealing with aggression and autism are pretty common, and important issues. There are a number of causes for kids with autism to hit, but it’s important to always start with an assessment. Maybe demands are causing the behavior, or when the child is bored or in pain. Aggressive behavior and autism can correlate with things that are not happening too, and knowing when the behavior is not happening is equally as important. For example, if the child only hits when they are not on the iPad, that could be a cause as well. All of this is important information for creating a plan to stop or reduce the behavior. When working with autism violence, it’s also important to observe and analyze what else is happening when the child is hitting. Without any of this information, and questions answered, an autism aggression treatment plan can easily backfire. If you’re still questioning “how do I stop my child from hitting”, or “why does my child keep hitting”, make sure to download my free 3step guide to help you get started turning autism around today.
