Could your RV’s dinette seating use a little upgrade? Instead of replacing your cushions, with a few supplies and a little money, you can easily reupholster this seating area yourself. You don’t even need to be a DIY professional to tackle this project. Simply roll up your sleeves and follow the steps in this video.


Here’s how to get started with your dinette reupholstering project


Supplies. You’ll first need to gather your supplies. For this project, you’ll want to have your choice of fabric, scissors, 1/4inchthick wood, a staple gun, 3/8inch staples, and a soft tape measure.

Fabric recommendations. Since your dinette area is regularly used, you’ll want a fabric that can handle a little wear and abuse. Outdoor upholstery fabric or an upholstery vinyl fabric will work best for this project. It’s always a good idea to buy a little extra fabric to accommodate for any mishaps along the way.

Wood. You’ll want to use 1/4inch underlayment wood for the backside of your dinette cushion. If you don’t have the equipment to cut this piece yourself, measure your dimensions before purchasing your wood and ask the lumber or hardware store to cut it for you. Oftentimes, these stores are equipped to make cuts for you. Keep in mind, your wood will be 1 inch shorter than your cushion on all sides.

Don’t worry about mistakes. Once you get started reupholstering your cushions, don’t be afraid of messing up or starting over on something you’re not happy with. This is a forgiving project where mistakes can easily be fixed, so just remember to take your time and have fun with it.
