How to Replace a Ceiling Fan - DIY Step by Step Guide

Remodel With Robert

In this video I show you step by step how to change out a ceiling fan. If you are simply looking to update an older fan to a newer fan, then this can be a very easy project to do yourself in as little as a couple of hours and with very few tools. There are some situations that a licensed electrician should be involved unless you have a very in depth knowledge of electrical work, but if you enjoy doing projects yourself then in many cases this project can be tackled with very little electrical knowledge required. You do want to make sure you purchase a fan appropriate for the size of the room. This information should be provided on the box as I show in the video.

Tools you will need: Phillips head screw driver, electrical tape, wire cutters. There may be other tools needed depending on the specific fan you install but most of the required parts will come with the fan. A drill may make removing a couple of the older screws a little quicker but it shouldn't be necessary.
