In this video, I demo how to regain and/or recover access to a lost Google Universal Analytics (UA) account. Follow these six simple checklist steps for recovery.

NOTE: This tutorial is for Universal Analytics (UA) properties only; not Google Analytics 4 (GA4). I’ll work on finding out the details for GA4 and post a link once I have an update.

✅ STEP 1:
Find the existing Universal Analytics tracking ID (also known as UAID).

TIP: Install extension “Tag Assistant (by Google)” to Chrome browser.

Copy this code from Analytics Help doc and paste the code into word editor:

GooGhywoiu9839t543j0s7543uw1 pls add {INSERT EMAIL ADDRESS} to GA account {INSERT UAID} with ‘Manage Users and Edit’ permissions date {INSERT DATE}.

✅ STEP 3:
Save as “analytics.txt” file.

✅ STEP 4:
Upload “analytics.txt” file to the root of your domain (e.g., example.com/analytics.txt).

✅ STEP 5:

✅ Step 6:
Wait for Google to respond.
