HOW TO PICK THE BEST SEAT ON A PLANE: THE COMPLETE GUIDE

Follow
Ceci Saia

Which seats to choose on a plane is not as simple as reserving a window or aisle: the best seat on the plane depends on what your priority is: more legroom, being able to recline the seat, sleeping during the trip, having the best locations to get out faster, or avoid turbulence, for example.
In this complete guide I will tell you which is the best seat on a plane depending on what you are looking for, how to choose, and what to do when buying the flight to increase your chances of obtaining it.

* The front part of the plane is the quietest and is usually reserved for higher classes, which we won't talk about in this video because all the seats are good. But if it were a shorter flight, where there is no business or it is very small, the seats in front of the wings are more convenient because you get out of the plane faster, they are quieter, and if there is food they serve you first because they go from the front backwards. Always thinking about food.
* The seats that are at the height of the wings always fall in economy class and what is good about them is that they are the ones where you feel the least turbulence.
* The length of the plane is divided into "cabins", and on larger planes there may be two or three economy class cabins. The first row of each cabin has plenty of legroom because there are no seats in front. On the other hand, depending on the location, they can be near bathrooms or the galley, and the front of the cabins is also where you can put baby cribs, so there are more chances that you will travel near one.
* The seats next to the emergency exits also have more legroom and are usually premium spaces, but watch out for two things: they need to be physically fit to be able to open the door in case of an emergency, otherwise they will be asked to move to another row. And the seat right in front of the emergency exit is locked to recline. It can't be done. Sometimes there are two rows of emergency exits and then the first one is not going to recline. One of lime and one of sand.

That said, we already know which seat we want, but how do we get it for ourselves?
Obviously the fare of your ticket has to include seat selection, or at least have the option to pay to be able to choose. If not, the airline will assign you one automatically.
Choose the seat as soon as you have the reservation made. This can be done online and is separate from checkin. So they don't have to wait 24 hours before the flight, they can do it even months in advance.
Even if with the previous point you got the desired seat, check again 24 hours before checkin, since sometimes there are lastminute promotions for an upgrade for little money. It's happened to me a couple of times and while it's not free, it may well be worth the extra money.
Many airlines are no longer content to charge you for choosing a seat, but instead charge you more if the location is "desirable." For that, it is very useful to sign up for the frequent flyer program and add as much as possible, since some categories let you choose the seat without having to pay anything additional.
Passengers with a disability, like my dad, for example, have the right to choose any seat in the class without having to pay anything. Fewer emergency exits, of course. They mark this when they are making the reservation, or if they do not have the option, they notify the airline as soon as they finish.
If all else fails, when you are already at the boarding gate, ask the staff, very kindly, if by any chance a seat was freed up later, or in the aisle or window, and if they can assign it to you. This worked for me a couple of times too, although it's not a right and it's not a guarantee.
