Should you attempt to negotiate a debt settlement with a bill collector?

In this video I suggest that you let your lawyer do the talking but if you do decide to negotiate, I’ll explain the key negotiation points that you must keep in mind if you want to end up with a reasonable and enforceable settlement of your debt.

Bill collectors are not your friends and you should not assume that anything a debt collector says (or threatens) represents the truth. Still, I have seen cases where my clients have successfully worked out payment arrangements to either avoid the need to file for bankruptcy, or have delayed their bankruptcy filing date to better prepare for a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 filing.
