Making your own good succulent potting soil is easy if you have the right ingredients. James Lucas uses 2 types of bark and two types of sand in his general succulent potting mix.

For example some succulents such as Lithops, Adromischus and even some Echeveria require more drainage he adds Scoria, Pumice, other gravel or Perlite.
