3 tab shingle repairs that are not sealed down are just about guaranteed to blow out. If you are doing a 3 tab shingle repair, where the old and new shingles come together, if they don't have a seal strip be sure to add just a couple dabs of sealer underneath to seal down. 3 tab roofs also need to have the starter shingle offset. Lastly, nail placement is important on 3 tab shingle roofs.
