Listening to your body and developing sensory awareness helps calm your frazzled nerves so your body can heal from pain, stress and tension. Proprioception, or body awareness, helps you release chronic muscle tension that’s a result of ongoing stress, stored trauma or blocked emotions in your body. It’s important to develop this crucial skill in order to heal not only your physical self but also for mental and emotional health.

How To Start To Listen To And Feel Your Body Again

Proprioception exercises that restore your self awareness are crucial for longterm relief from pain, tension and soreness. Often we associate stiffness and limited flexibility with aging, assuming that our bodies break down as we get older. But the fact is that aging isn’t to blame for your stiff, aching muscles and joints.

Over time as we experience stress, this causes us to subconsciously contract our muscles over and over again until tension becomes habituated. After years of stress and chronic muscle tension, the result is pain and soreness but this process can be reversed!

When you pay attention to sensory data coming from your body, it calms the stress response in your nervous system, allowing your muscles to relax.

In this video, I talk about why it’s important to start to listen to your body again, and also why most people don’t do this in the first place. I also give you simple tips to start reconnecting to sensory awareness and develop enhanced proprioception so that you can start to calm your nervous system, discharge stored stress and heal old trauma.
