When mounting the meeting rail be sure to attach the aluminum meeting rail aka as an H channel to the side that is going to have the J hook or latch grab / plate.

On one side of the meeting rail there are notches which allow it to click into the side of the screen door where the J hook will be mounted.

Then use a self tapping screw to attach.

Also don't allow for any bowing of the channel.
If the alum meeting rail is too long, then use a hacksaw or chop saw with a blade that can cut aluminum to cut it down to required size.
