Learning how to fix a pinhole leak in a copper pipe comes in handy. Especially when you have water leaking from your ceiling...

Yah, this happened to 4 times.

No fun.

Today I share how to use Oatey's FixIt Stick. This is a an epoxy putty that hardens in a few minutes and creates a temporary leakproof seal.

If you've played with clay you can use this stuff.

You can buy the FixIt Stick for $5 to $9.

Once you find the pinhole leak in the copper pipe you need to turn the water off at the water main. Dry off the copper pipe with a towel. Mold the FixIt Stick putty until it's a light shade of gray.

Shape it over the pinhole in the copper pipe. I like to press down on it to ensure the putty gets into the pinhole then taper the ends. In a few minutes the putty will be rock solid and you can turn your water back on.

Use gloves when using the FixIt Stick. It can burn your skin because of the epoxy components.

The best part about this product is that it can save you tons of money by preventing further water damage to walls or ceilings. Plus, you can continue to use your home's water system until you permanently fix the pipe yourself or call a plumber.
