Anthony Murdock, a Milwaukeebased construction attorney, said the key to marketing yourself by blogging is answering wouldbe client questions without using too much legalese.

“You want to listen to your customers and think back to how they found you,” Murdock said. “What type of issues do they have that you’ve dealt with? If one person has that issue, it’s likely that others will have similar issues.

“If you can write generally enough to address that issue within the rules of ethics, not giving away anything specific to a case,” Murdock said. “You can write good generic articles about the topics that they’ve asked about.”

Murdock was a presenter on a panel titled “Know Your Niche, Setting Yourself Apart as a Solo and Small Firm Lawyer,” at the State Bar of Wisconsin’s annual Solo and Small Firm Conference last month.
