Hours of Service compliance is essential for truck drivers, and log books help maintain it. Learn all about filling out a paper log book and why it’s important with this comprehensive walkthrough by Schneider Driver Instructor Henry Frautschy.
Remember, this video is just an example of how to fill out a paper log book. It is not a reallife scenario.
Paper logs are only to be used when a driver’s Electronic Logging Device (ELD) is not functioning. Truck drivers are required to have a backup plan to record their Hours of Service (HOS) manually. In the event of an ELD malfunction, drivers should switch to a paper log book until the ELD is repaired or replaced. Drivers should keep a minimum of eight days of paper logs with them at all times.
