How To File an Illinois Small Claims Complaint

Follow
Learn About Law

Watch this video from our Illinois family law attorney to learn how to fill out an Illinois Small Claims Complaint.

Smalls claims court is a place where you can sue a person or a business if the amount you are seeking is $10,000 or less. Small claims judges can only order a judgment for money and cannot require a business or person to do something or to stop doing something. Some examples that can be filed in small claims court, include someone physically injured you or damaged your property and refuses to pay for your loss, your landlord refuses to return your security deposit, someone owes you money for work you have done, but refuses to pay you, or you pay for work to be done and the contractor refuses to fix it.

You will also want to fill out a small claims summons form and a letter to Sherriff form. If you are suing more than one defendant, you must fill out a separate summons for each defendant
