How to Deal with Frozen Pipes ❄️

Follow
1 Tom Plumber

Frozen pipes can wreak havoc on your home. They can cause you to lose water, or even cause major flooding in your home. Flooding from frozen pipes can cause water damage; which will likely lead to mold and structural damage.

When there is a freeze it is extremely important to make sure you turn all the faucets in your home on. A small drip is all you need in both hot and cold water lines. This helps prevent frozen pipes as well as burst pipes.

If you have a frozen pipe you may think you should turn the water off, however that is incorrect. Only when a pipe has burst is it needed to be turned off. If that is the case then we suggest you do that first thing. Water damage can set in quickly!

Please avoid trying to thaw your own pipes. It can be very dangerous if using any sort of heat on them. A plumber has the knowledge and experience to thaw a frozen pipe safely. When you leave your water on a slow drip it will help to slowly thaw the pipe as you wait for a plumber.
