This step by step tutorial will show you how to crochet a very easy shell stitch hat for beginners.

For your hat you will need to use a 5mm crochet hook and aran/worsted weight yarn.

This hat can be made in all sizes from baby to adult by changing the number of double crochets worked in round 1:
For size 0 6 months (15 inch circumference) work 8 double crochets in round 1.
For size 6 12 months (17 inch circumference) work 9 double crochets in round 1.
For a young child (19 inch circumference) work 10 double crochets in round 1.
For an older child (21 inch circumference) work 11 double crochets in round 1.
For an adult (22 inch circumference) work 12 double crochets in round 1.
