Too many people have a strong reputation but weak character. Your reputation is what people think about you; your public persona. Your character is who you really are; your private identity. To be a person of integrity is to be a person who has congruence between your public reputation and your private character, but many people are living a dissonant life. Their public persona is righteous but their private identity is ratchet.

Although David slaying Goliath gets all of the headlines in church, David's public victory was the result of the private lions and bears he slayed in the shadows while tending his father's sheep. His victory in the spotlight was an outgrowth of his victory in the shadows, which is why God wants us to not be satisfied with "looking" like we're victorious when we're actually living defeated.
