If you’re new to owning a Tesla Model 3 or Teslas in general, charging options can be confusing, especially how to charge at home. In this quick video I break down the charging options using my 2021 Model 3 Standard Range Plus:

(1) Use the 110V wall charger that came with your Tesla. This is a SLOW process. It charges at roughly 1 kilowatt (kw) per hour, or 5 miles per hour.

(2) Use a 240V outlet, which is the same outlet your clothes dryer plugs into. To do this, you’ll need to buy an adapter from the Tesla Shop. The adapter plugs into the charging cable that came with your Tesla. It charges at 6 kilowatts per hour, or 25 miles, at least in my house. FIVE TIMES faster than the 110V adapter. Awesome! My 240V outlet is type NEMA 1430 so that’s the adapter I bought from Tesla, it cost $45.

(3) If you don’t have a dryer outlet you can buy the Tesla Wall Connector, which charges at a claimed 44 miles per hour. The unit costs $500 and must be installed by an electrician, so expect a few hundred dollars of labor for that.

(4) On the road you can use the Supercharger network, which can charge at 72 kw/hr on average, or 600 miles per hour! But it’ll cost you $2535 to charge from empty to full, depending on the size of your battery.
