Learn how to capture and cage a queen bee with a few attendant bees. I discuss the things you need to know before you start and then show the process. There are a few steps but if followed correctly, the queen is caged successfully.
Queen bees are caged for many reasons, one of the more common is to replace a weak/failing queen bee. This is where the old failing queen would be culled, leaving the colony queenless. After 24 hours of being queenless the caged queen is placed into the hive. The bees will eat the candy to release her. This can take anywhere from 24 hours to 36. During the candy feast, the caged queens pheromones spread through the hive. The bees in the hive become attracted to the new queen and assist in helping her escape.
