How to calculate solo 401k contributions is a complete walkthrough on contributing to your self employed small business retirement plan. The solo 401k goes by many names including single(k), solo 401(k), Individual(k) or 'owneronly' plans.

The maximum contribution for the selfemployed small business owner for 2019 is 56,000 and for 2020 the maximum contribution is 57,000. The calculation includes both employee and employer contributions to the solo 401k.

The calculation is different than contributions for an s corporation and is a bit tricky unless you know the exact formula.
