Thorsten Kirsch from Fornsbach in the Swabian Forest is a carpenter. After years of working as a roofer on site and rebuilding apartment buildings, he has established a second business with his company: Sauna trailers, in which one can sauna outside in nature undisturbed and even spend the night in it.

He has his workshop at the train station in Fornsbach. He has turned the area into a green oasis. There is also his first sauna wagon the prototype of his current shepherd's wagon saunas. Again and again he has improved his shepherd's cart models. Today he builds different sizes and variants. With wood stove or electric, on modern trailers for up to 80 Kmh or the cozy variant for 6 km/h with original historical wagon wheels.

So also every sauna wagon starts with the selection of the suitable wagon wheels, 1.5 t they should carry in the end already. Thorsten Kirsch builds his wagons so that they look like classic singleaxle shepherd's wagons. But since they had to be windproof and thermally insulated for sauna use, he uses modern multilayer panels for the frame construction and the walls Siberian larch on the outside and untreated spruce on the inside. In between comes a 4 cm thick insulation made of jute fibers shredded and recycled from the cocoa sacks of a wellknown German chocolate manufacturer. In general, Thorsten Kirsch takes great care to ensure that all components are sustainable and suitable for saunas. For example, he paints the windows with a varnish that does not outgas. For the heightadjustable reclining surfaces, he uses local linden because the light linden wood does not heat up so much due to its molecular density and because it is shortfibered. Thorsten Kirsch sands all seating and reclining surfaces that come into contact with the sauna by hand for understandable reasons.

He also put some saunaspecific thought into the roof. He planks the semicircular roof with spruce boards on the inside and insulates the whole thing with soft fiber mats. The highlight: Instead of a tin roof, he planted a green roof made of sedum plants. This 12 cm thick but lightlooking structure keeps the car nice and cool in summer and reduces the temperature loss by about 10 degrees during sauna operation. And so completely besides Thorsten Kirsch finds also that so a begrünter Saunawagen looks substantially more beautiful, if it fits harmoniously into the landscape picture. No matter whether the sauna stands in the own garden or one drives on route to a lake or river, sauna with such a Saunawagen in direct contact with nature is always a special experience. A little piece of independence on wheels and pure wellness.
