How to build a cow milking stanchion

Follow
Connerty Meadows Farm

We bought a milk cow and needed a place to milk her. We built this stanchion for her and it works wonderful.
Here is the blog we used to loosely base our building on: http://zephyrhillfarm.blogspot.com/20...

Here is our lumber list:
One rubber mat to fit the inside of your stall
2x4x8 untreated 4 These were used as the head gate and to build the feed box at the front.
4x4x8 treated 4 These are the side posts. We cut ours down to 7 feet
2x6x8 treated 12 These are what builds the floor foundation (scraps to help level it out as well) and the floor itself.
2x6x8 untreated These are what secure the top part altogether (and build the cat area), they are also the side rails and the pieces that hold the headgate in place. Some of the scraps also build the feed box.
We also used a couple pieces of scrap plywood where the headgate is so it can have enough room to swing.
2 rings to put on the head gate to lock it in place as well as a chain and a clip.
Two galvanized bolts 6" long and two matching washers and nuts.
You will need to either nail or screw this all together, we used a combination of the two.
