Singapore Airlines is the king of longhaul flight. Not only do they fly the world’s longest route, but they’ve done so for quite some time. It first started nonstop service to New York a mission that spans 19 hours back in 2004. And when it did so, it beat the previous record by a whopping 1400 miles.

Of course, the world has changed dramatically in the 20 years since, and demand for longhaul travel has grown rapidly. In fact, 9 out of the 10 longest flights today debuted within the last decade. And yet, Singapore’s New York service remains untouched atop the list.

Now, their reign hasn’t been an accident; flying ultralongmissions is incredibly challenging. So, what’s made the carrier so successful? What’s allowed Singapore Airlines to not only claim but hold onto the record for the world’s longest flight? Let me explain…
