HOW MANY TIMES A YEAR A CAT GO IN HEAT?

Right from the day you adopt a cat, they become a part of your family. You do all that you can to make sure they are healthy and happy. But what if you notice your feline friend suddenly starts behaving weirdly?

It is not uncommon for female cat owners to notice that their otherwise quiet cats start becoming very vocal all of a sudden. They begin meowing and yowling and that too very loudly. Also, they might spray urine on vertical objects. You might even notice a loss of appetite, excessive licking, and other strange behavior.

Do not worry, your feline kid is not ill but is actually in heat. Being in heat is simply another term for being in oestrus.

In this video, we will talk about two things:

Okay, let’s get started with our video:

How Many Times A Year A Cat Goes Into Heat?

If your female cat has not been spayed yet, then they likely may have already experienced a heat cycle. Female cats are known to go into heat once every 2 to 3 weeks until she becomes pregnant or spayed. And this happens during the mating period which may continue from spring until fall. A heat cycle will generally last for six days.

The increase in daylight hours and even natural elements like temperature can also have an impact on the heat cycles of cats. Indoor cats can go into heat throughout the year. This is because indoor felines are exposed to artificial light every day.

Now, spaying your cat is the sole option to prevent them from going into heat. If you do not opt for it, or, if your little friend is already into heat then there are a few things that can be done to provide them relief.

What To Do When Your Cat Is In Heat?

1. Keep them at home

You need to keep your feline kid away from tomcats. Try to keep them isolated in your bedroom or some room at the back of your house. You have to make sure your cat cannot escape from the glass doors or windows where they can see tomcats, as this can get them more excited.

2. Offer catnip

Both fresh and dried catnip can help calm some cats. You may also use catnip drops, toys, and catnip sprays.

3. Give them attention

Physical contact and attention can calm down your kitty and make her a little comfortable. You can distract your kitty by playing with her. Offering new toys and keeping them distracted can prove to be helpful.

4. Play some cat videos

Play some cat videos that have been specifically designed to distract cats. This can prove to be very helpful if you need to go away from home leaving your kitty behind.

To Conclude –

Your kitty behaving strangely meowing or yowling loudly, or even spraying urine on your furniture may seem to be very irritating. But, you need to handle this phase with calmness.

You need to understand your cat is in heat and that she can do nothing about it. Try to calm down your little friend and give her the love and attention that she needs now. And, if handling all this seems difficult, you can visit your vet and opt for spaying.
