One of the questions that pops up is “How hard should I grip the handgun”? This is a matter of debate and something to experiment with.

In general, grip it firmly enough that it doesn’t slip in the hand under recoil yet still allows you to relax your diaphragm area and keep your trigger finger relaxed enough so you can isolate the trigger properly.

Your support hand can grip more firmly because it is not manipulating the trigger. For years shooters have talked about the “6040” grip. This is a rough estimate of grip pressure between the support hand and the strong hand. It is done this way in order to be more precise in your trigger control. However, there are endless variations of this grip and you are free to experiment. When you try different variations of grip pressure gradually speed up and see if it breaks down as you go.
